Carlos Alcaraz v Karen Khachanov Head to Head
They played once before, at this year’s Roland Garros with Alcaraz winning 6-1 6-4 6-4.

Carlos Alcaraz is not playing good tennis in Hamburg but it doesn’t matter as he keeps winning. The match against Krajinovic was another iffy affair where the Spaniard was largely able to overcome his opponent due to being mentally stronger.
Krajinovic served for the first at 5-4 and had 4-2 in the first set tiebreak but ultimately lost. He lost the tiebreak by dropping five points in a row. In the 2nd one, Krajinovic was largely outplayed by a solid Alcaraz who finished off the job with 6-3.
Despite not playing great so far, there was a clear improvement from round one to round two. That bodes well for the Spaniard as he looks to improve even more with a semifinal looming. The opponent is Karen Khachanov, a player he beat earlier this year at Roland Garros so he should be confident in his abilities.
His year has been nothing short of brilliant. 37-7 so far and 21-2 on clay.

Good Return for Khachanov
Karen Khachanov last played in Halle before coming to Hamburg and it’s been a long layoff for the Russian. Despite not playing for exactly 30 days the return was a fruitful one as he was able to take down native player Jan-Lennard Struff which gave him even more confidence moving forward.
The opponent was Fabio Fognini and despite some hiccups, he was able to secure a solid straight sets win. The victory positions him in a good spot to take on Carlos Alcaraz once more this year.
The Spaniard defeated him at Roland Garros and it was not a bad match from Khachanov. He showed a good level at times having some decent chances as well. If he keeps playing well he will have some chances against an average Alcaraz.
The year overall has been really good with 24 wins and 16 loses with his clay record 9-6 as well. Pretty solid overall, no question about it.
Alcaraz v Khachanov Prediction and Tip
Carlos Alcaraz is the more talented player but he’s not been playing up to his talent in Hamburg. He might start so there is always that to remember but I do think Khachanov can keep this close.
It would keep quite a spectacular effort to win the match and I don’t think he has that in him but perhaps a set or a tiebreak. I will back Alcaraz to win but if you’re feeling bold you might want to explore the Russian winning a set.
