Lorenzo Sonego v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Sonego leads the head to head 2-1.
On clay, the pair is tied at 1-1, with Lajovic winning at the 2019 Monte-Carlo Masters and Sonego retaliating with a victory of his own in Rio in 2020.
None of their three matches have gone to a third set.

Since losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets in his Wimbledon third round match earlier this month, Sonego has participated in two clay court competitions. He has bowed out of both in the first round.
At Bastad, it was Aslan Karatsev who sent Sonego packing, a result that included a bagel against him despite having started off a 1/2 favourite to win it.
And this was followed by his appearance at the Gstaad Open where again, Sonego was 1/2 to defeat Juan Pablo Varillas but fell to a straight-set defeat.
Now coming up against Lajovic, who is himself facing a bit of a form crisis, Sonego might give himself a chance to get a rare win this year.

Lajovic Has Lost Four in a Row on Clay
He has won a few rounds on the Challenger circuit, and reached the second round at Wimbledon but on clay Lajovic has had a struggle on his hands since reaching the round of 16 in Madrid.
Having overcome Borna Coric and Casper Ruud as a qualifier in that tournament in Spain, Lajovic went on to lose to Alex de Minaur in the third round and has since then won no match on this surface.
A first round loss at Rome, French Open and Hamburg have followed but to be fair to Lajovic, he hadn’t gone into any of those as a favourite anyway.
And even now, against Sonego, he is 9/4 to surprise his opponent which means he will need to overcome the odds and hope he can relegate his opponent to another defeat.

Sonego starts off a 1/2 favourite but given the two players have struggled on clay in recent times, this could be anyone’s match. Expecting a lot of games in this one.
