Paul Looking To Continue Good Season

It has been a good season for upcoming American Tommy Paul.

At the start of the season, Paul made the semi-finals at Delray Beach as well as the quarters at the Mexican Open in Acupulco, losing to eventual champions Cameron Norrie and Rafael Nadal on each occasion.

As expected, the American did not have much of a clay season, given the surface is not well suited to his game. However, he did pull it back in the just concluded grass court swing.

It was back-to-back quarter-final appearances for the American at Queen’s Club and Eastbourne respectively.  He topped this with a round of 16 appearance at Wimbledon before losing out to British number one and eventual semi-finalist Cameron Norrie.

Paul did not have the best of US hard court seasons in 2021 and will be hoping to turn it around at the back of a confident run this season, into a more positive swing.

Sock Hoping For Revival On US Hard Court

Jack Sock, once ranked number eight in the world in the ATP rankings returned to the tour after a break and has had a mixed return since.

The American has pulled off some good wins in singles and doubles but is still searching for the consistency that had him as a force to reckon with on the tour during the later part of the last decade.

Most recently, Sock was in good touch on grass courts this year. He was a semifinalist in Nottingham, finished runner-up in Ilkley and carried that form to Wimbledon, reaching the third round after coming through the qualifiers.

Sock ousted Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the opening round and Maxime Cressy in the Round of 64, in Wimbledon with Cressy having defeated Felix Auger- Aliassime in the Wimbledon opener and won the ATP 250 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships the following week in Newport, Rhode Island.

The American is familiar with the courts and conditions here in Atlanta. He lost in the round of 16 here last year to six-time winner John Isner.

With a tough opener, Sock will be looking to start strong and make an impact and not let Paul run away with proceedings early.

Paul v Sock Prediction and Tip

While Tommy Paul has had the better season of the two and shown more consistency, one cannot rule out Jack Sock on the US hard courts. Expect a good contest with Paul prevailing in three sets.
