Albert Ramos Vinolas v Juan Pablo Varillas Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Ramos-Vinolas has won both times. Both matches were played on clay.
Their most recent outing came in Cordoba earlier this year and Ramos-Vinolas was leading by a set when his opponent retired from the encounter.

After the withdrawal of a few of the players, the fifth seeded Ramos Vinolas got himself a first round bye here. He had earlier made it as far as the semifinal in Gstaad where he fell easily to Casper Ruud.
With an opening round bye there too, Ruud had required three sets against both his first two opponents too – Dominik Stricker and Nikolas Jarry – to set up a meeting with the French Open finalist.
And while Ruud was an overwhelming favourite, not too many would have expected him to win just two games in the process.
The Spaniard, who was once ranked 17th in the world, also carved out a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory against Damir Dzumhur in a Bundesliga-men tennis match in the lead-up to this encounter.

Varillas Sends Taberner Packing
It was a match between players ranked 109th and 111th on the ATP charts and it was Varillas who came through in straight sets to seal his second round berth.
The Austrian player registered a 6-4, 6-3 victory in an hour and 29 minutes against Carlos Taberner to add to his already solid showing in Gstaad last week.
Having reached the quarterfinal in Gstaad after having come through as a qualifier, Varillas had his share of issues against Taberner. In the first set, for instance, he fell a break behind in the fifth game only to recover and break his opponent twice.
And then in the second again, Varillas was down a break on two separate occasions only for him to break his opponent three times in the set to clinch the win.
Can he do the same to the far experienced Ramos Vinolas?
