Jenson Brooksby, one of the crop of highly talented players USA have at this moment started his North American swing brilliantly by winning his opening match in Atlanta.
He defeated the mercurial Benoit Paire 6-3, 6-1 and completely choked Paire’s serve with some excellent return and baseline game.
Brooksby arrives in Atlanta after reaching the third round in Wimbledon where he faced a shock exit to Cristian Garin. He has developed a bit of confidence issues with his second serve and his win % on his second serve has gone down from the previous year.
The American Next Gen star had a breakthrough season last year, storming into the Newport final as a wildcard. He had also won multiple challengers, reached the round of 16 in the US Open and the semifinal in Washington and Antwerp.
Brooksby has a unique style of playing with his backhand style standing out. His baseline game and court coverage is extremely superior and just needs more work on his serve to become world class.
The number 6 seed is taking part in Atlanta for the first time in his young career.

McDonald Overcomes Veteran Kudla
Mackenzie McDonald has had two successful years on the tour and broke into the top 100 at a much later age than his compatriots. He is currently ranked 51 in the world, 2 places below his career high rank.
McDonald defeated American veteran Denis Kudla 6-2, 7-6(8) in the first round. With that win, he reached the second round of Atlanta for the first time in his career.
He was actually 1-5 down in the tie break of a very topsy-turvy second set and somehow managed to win it from there. McDonald has been in very average form this year, having a 17-19 record on all surfaces this year.
He had brilliantly won the Washington Open last year against Jannik Sinner and he will soon have to defend the 500 points from that tournament. Hence he is doing his best to go into the Washington Open at his best form.
McDonald is known as a very hard working individual and is much appreciated by his peers. His return game is as good as anyone in the top 30 of the world, however his serve is very inconsistent and is pulling him down.
