James Duckworth v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Duckworth Beats Koepfer

World No. 62 and 30-year-old James Duckworth is off to a shaky start in Atlanta as he survived a three-set slogfest against Dominik Koepfer. The match lasted two hours and saw the veteran win 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3.

Duckworth has had an abysmal year, with his current tally now placed at 3-9. He was out of commission for three months between January and May; when he returned to the tour, he lost five matches consecutively across ATP Lyon, French Open, Surbiton Challenger, Rosmalen Championships, and ATP London.

That said, James did improve his game of late by reaching the semis in the Porto Challenger and the quarterfinals in Newport.

With 29 Challenger and Futures finals to his name, Duckworth has some experience to leverage when he takes on the youngster. However, he has only made it to one ATP final while his opponent is already at nine.

De Minaur, Looking Sharp0

By contrast, 23-year-old Alex de Minaur has had a splendid year. The number three seed is 28-16 and starts in Atlanta with a bye into round two.

This is his first tournament since his exciting grass campaign that saw him reach the semis in Eastbourne and the fourth round in Wimbledon. Alex dispatched players like Tommy Paul, Lorenzo Sonego, and Cristian Garin in the two tournaments.

De Minaur reached the same R16 stage in the Australian Open – which he later followed with a quarterfinal bout in Rotterdam with Stefanos Tsitsipas and another mid-stage sprint in Indian Wells.

In fact, the Aussie has been consistent across the spectrum with deep runs on the clay courts in Barcelona and Lyon as well. And over the course of his career, he has beaten several experienced players time and again to prove his mettle.

De Minaur v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

In all fairness, this match is De Minaur’s to lose. He may not be experienced but his momentum and form this season should help him reach the next round comfortably.

Tip: De Minaur to win in straight sets: 1/3 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
