Tsitsipas v Bautista-Agut Head to Head
The players have never met on the ATP circuit.
Greek ‘Wunderkind’ Continues Dream Journey
20-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas will be playing his first Grand Slam quarter finals, after the upset of the tournament, beating Swiss maestro Roger Federer, in the fourth round, in four sets.
After a solid performance in the first three rounds, Tsitsipas displayed exceptional talent, and nerve, in his fourth round encounter. It was a tightly contested affair, with the Greek not giving in, despite his far more experienced opponent.
Tsitsipas, has moved his way up the rankings in the last 12 months, with spirited performances against top 10, and other players, and now has ATP victories against both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. With a strong serve, powerful forehand, and an all-court game, Tsitsipas has impressed all with his heavy single handed backhand, as well. Tsitsipas is also not hesitant to come up to the net, as needed.
The Greek has been in good form at the Open, with plenty of forehand winners, and success, from the forecourt in all his matches, including his match against Roger Federer
He now takes on the Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut, who has been in the form of his life
Can the Spanish Veteran Make his First Major Semis?
Spanish veteran, Roberto Bautista Agut, has made his first major quarter finals as well, and has been in ominous form in 2019. After a win at the ATP 250 in Doha to start the year, Agut has defeated Andy Murray, John Milman, Karen Khachanov, and Marin Cilic in difficult matches, with three of them going five sets.
Agut will be a different challenge for Tsitsipas, than Federer. With a more defensive game, the gritty Agut, will rely on his relentless consistency, and ability to wear down an attacking opponent, like Tsitsipas. Agut has had continued success against powerful hitters like Murray, Khachanov, and Cilic, with a similar approach.
Stefanos Tsitsipas v Roberto Bautista-Agut Tips & Predictions
Both will come in full of confidence, given their runs at the Open thus far. It will be a clash of contrasting playing styles. Agut, can definitely frustrate Tsitsipas into errors, and at the back of Tsitsipas’ monumental win last round, we may see a letdown of sorts.
If Tsitsipas can hold his composure the way he has so far, we can expect him to hit through Agut, just like he has done with others, Federer included. An interesting, and unexpected quarter final ahead; Tsitsipas to prevail in four sets.
