Sebastian Baez v Sebastian Korda Head to Head
Korda won their only meeting at the ATP NextGen Finals last year.

Can Baez Deliver on Hard Courts?
After winning six titles from nine Challenger finals last year, Sebastian Baez has raised his level this year, making an impression at the highest level.
The 21-year-old Argentine has already featured in three ATP finals this year, winning his maiden title in Estoril and finishing second best in Santiago and Bastad. But with all those successes coming on clay, his real test begins now. Can the World No. 31 continue to impress on hard courts?
Overall, Baez has a 25-19 record this season, but 21 of those wins have come on clay. On hard courts, he is 2-5 this season and 4-7 overall at the tour level. Even on the Challenger Tour, he is played one and lost that on hard court, while at the ITF level he is 11-4 on hard courts.
His two hard court wins this year came in Sydney and at the Australian Open. Having leaped from World No. 99 at the start of the year to his career-best of 31 this week, Baez will come to Washington as a confident man, and that could help him put up a good show even on a surface that doesn’t suit his game.

Korda Dispatches Ivashka
World No. 54 Sebastian Korda snapped a three-match losing streak with a straight sets win over Ilya Ivashka in the opening round on Tuesday.
The American, who had lost to Taro Daniel in the opening round last week, came back from a break down to take the first set and then edged out the Belarusian in the second set tiebreak to score a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory.
Korda struck 10 aces and 28 winners and won 85% points on the back of his first delivery during the one hour and 40 minute contest. When it comes to break points, he converted 2 of 4 and saved 2 of 3 to oust the World No. 49.
With the win Korda improved to 18-14 this season and 9-6 on hard courts. The 22-year-old had an excellent 2021, when he picked his maiden title in Emilia-Romagna and finished runner-up in Delray Beach and the NextGen Finals.
He hasn’t had the same impact this year, with a run to the semifinals in Estoril being his best. On hard courts, he featured in just one quarterfinal this year and that was in Delray Beach.
Baez v Korda Prediction and Tip
Baez is the seeded player but Korda will be the favourite on the hard court in Washington. Expect the American to progress.
