Beatriz Haddad Maia v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

It’s 1-o to Trevisan, although they last met in the 2016 ITF final in Santa Margherita Di Pula 9, where the Italian won in straight sets.

Maia, Looking to Build on her Recent Success

Beatriz Haddad Maia will feature in Toronto with a tally of 36-15, two singles titles, and three doubles finals to show for.

Her biggest highlights include the consecutive title feats in Nottingham and Birmingham, and the doubles winner trophies in Sydney and Nottingham. Maia was also a runner-up in the Australian Open doubles with Anna Danilina.

Beatriz has also fared well on the Challenger circuit with two finals in Saint-Malo and Paris.

Having played with superb consistency across all turfs, the Brazilian is undoubtedly among the dark horses in this year’s Canadian Open.

However, her start to the US Open swing did not go according to plan as she lost to Claire Liu in the Silicon Valley Classic opener last week.

Trevisan, Low on Momentum

World No. 26 Martina Trevisan, ranking just one spot below Maia, may find herself a bit out of place when she takes on the court this week.

The hard surface has never been her strong suit; Trevisan is more of a clay-court specialist with 17 ITF finals and one WTA title on the surface. Additionally, her most prominent result of the season came in Rabat and the French Open, where she was a champion and a semifinalist, respectively.

Martina’s form has been somewhat muted on other surfaces, with a sole round-two stint in the Australian Open (as a qualifier) being the high point of her season there.

Clearly, she will be at a disadvantage when she plays Maia.

Maia v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

This match is Maia’s to lose; she has the form, momentum, and a far superior pedigree. Much will depend on how she starts but if she can build her rhythm quickly, moving past Trevisan should not prove to be too big a challenge.

Tip: Maia to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
