Jelena Ostapenko v Alison Riske Head to Head
Ostapenko has won both their previous meetings. One of them was at the U.S. Open in 2019 and the other at the Australian Open this year.

Ostapenko Dumps Out Kalinina
Jelena Ostapenko needed just 73 minutes to breeze past Anhelina Kalinina in the opening round on Monday.
The World no. 16 saved three break points in the seventh game of the first set before going on to clinch the opening set by getting the only break in the 10th game.
The Latvian started the second by building a 3-0 lead, then saw her advantage disappear as the Ukrainian broke back and won two games in a row. But Ostapenko restored her advantage by breaking again and then finishing off the match quickly by winning the last three games in a row.
The 6-4, 6-2 victory saw Ostapenko win 81% points on her first serve and save 5 of 6 break points.
The 25-year-old Latvian has displayed great form this season and Monday’s win improved her season record to 26-12. She won her fifth WTA title in Dubai earlier this year and finished runner-up in Eastbourne, in what was her 12th WTA final. Ostapenko was also a semifinalist in St. Petersburg and Doha and made it to the fourth round in Wimbledon.
This is only the second time that Ostapenko has won a first round match in Toronto in what is her sixth appearance. She made it to the Round of 16 in 2019.

Riske Beats Former Champion
World no. 35 Alison Riske knocked out 2012 champion Petra Kvitova in the opening round on Monday.
Riske dominated the first and the third sets, not facing a single break point in either of them and breaking the Czech twice in each to win the one hour and 56 minute contest 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. While the first and the third sets were one-sided affairs, the second set was a highly competitive one with Kvitova putting up a fight. She got broken thrice but also broke Riske’s serve on four occasions to edge the set. However, that was not enough for the World no. 23.
Riske has progressed well over the last two years. This year, the three-time tour-level champion reached her 12th and 13 career finals in Adelaide-2 and Nottingham but couldn’t add to her titles.
This is only the third time that Riske is in the second round at the Canadian Open in her seventh try. How long will she go?
Ostapenko v Riske Prediction and Tip
