Carreno Busta Stuns Sinner
Pablo Carreno Busta continued his dominant run at the Canadian Open, upsetting the seventh seed Jannik Sinner on Thursday and moving into the quarterfinals in Montreal for the first time in his career.
This was the third straight straight sets win for the World no. 23, who is yet to be broken this week.
Displaying another solid service performance, Carreno Busta dropped just six points on his serve in the first set and six in the second to beat the Italian 6-2,6-4 in an hour and 25 minutes.
While he didn’t face a single break point for the third match in a row, he converted 3 of 5 breaking chances to see off the Umag Open champion.
Carreno Busta had begun his campaign by upsetting another Italian, the 11th seed Matteo Berrettini. He had dropped just 11 point on his serve to beat the World no. 14, 6-3, 6-2. He followed that first round win with a 6-0, 6-3 hammering of Holger Rune in just 56 minutes in Round 2. Rune could win just nine return points in that match.
The Spaniard improved his season record to 25-17 following Thursday’s win. A finalist in Barcelona and a semifinalist in Bastad, he will be playing in his fourth quarterfinal of the season on Friday.

Draper Advances as Monfils Retires
Jack Draper’s dream debut in Montreal continued as the World no. 82 marched into the first quarterfinal of an ATP 1000 event.
The British left-hander had dominated the first set by breaking Gael Monfils twice before taking a one-set-to-love lead. But he was down 0-2 in the second when the Frenchman retired with an ankle injury. Monfils looked in serious pain having aggravated the same injury which had kept him out of action since the Madrid Open in May.
While Draper didn’t want the match to end the way it did, he would be happy with how he had performed in the first set, which he won 6-2.
Draper, who qualified for the main draw after his second qualifying opponent Quentin Halys retired after just four games in the match, had pulled off the biggest win of his career in the second round on Wednesday, when he upset the World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) in just over two hours.
The 20-year-old had begun his Montreal Challenge by beating another qualifier Hugo Gaston 6-2, 6-3.
This is proving to be a great year for the Briton, who will be featuring in a second quarterfinal of the year. The Eastbourne semifinalist also played in his first four Challenger finals this year, winning all four of them. Can he make the semifinals in Montreal?
Carreno Busta v Draper Prediction and Tip
Both players are in terrific form at the moment. Carreno Busta, who has not faced a single break point so far in the tournament against quality opponents, will be the favourite to win but he won’t take Draper lightly, as the Briton’s been the surprise package in the ATP 1000 tournament. Expect a quality match with the Spaniard advancing.
Tip: Carreno Busta to win AND Over 19.5 games: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
