Jelena Ostapenko v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Ostapenko has won both of them. Both came in hard court competitions.

At the first, Ostapenko needed three sets to get past her opponent at the Seoul Open in 2017, before registering a straight-set win in Miami in 2018.

Ostapenko Coming off Fighting Loss at Toronto

While Ostapenko rolled into the second round of the Canadian Open with a straight-set win over Anhelina Kalinina, her defeat at the hands of Alison Riske would have left her surprise.

Especially given the manner of that loss, having won the second set to love but losing the other two, 7-5, 7-6.

This showing came on the back of an otherwise sparkling season on hard court surfaces, with Ostapenko having won the Dubai title in February and made the semifinal in Doha and St. Petersburg.

Unfortunately for her, since that showing in Doha, she has played five matches on hard courts and lost four of them.

Can she ward off the Haddad Maia challenge?

Haddad Maia One of the Fastest Movers on the Circuit

Around two years ago when the tennis circuit returned after the five-month long pandemic break, Haddad Maia was ranked 1342nd in the world.

Today, after making it to the final at the Toronto Open last week, she has jumped up to 16th on the WTA circuit, one of the quickest jumps from where she was in 2020.

In 2022 itself, Haddad Maia has won three titles, which include one on the WTA 125 series and back to back tournament wins on the grass courts of Nottingham and Birmingham.

And just when one thought hard courts aren’t her cup of tea, the Brazilian player sent the likes of Leylah Fernandez, Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova packing to make it to the final.

While she lost to Simona Halep there, that’s the kind of showing which should give Haddad Maia a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

Ostapenko v Haddad Maia Prediction and Tip

Interestingly, Haddad Maia is 11/10 to win this despite her performance last week and this could be down to the exhaustion from having played all week and not having had any break between the two tournaments. That, probably, is the only reason we would have to back Ostapenko too.

Tip: Ostapenko to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
