Coric’s career record is more or less similar on each of the three surfaces, grass, clay and hard, but this year, he has struggled to get going on the latter.
He’s played four matches and won just one, having ousted veteran Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in Miami, with his losses coming at the hands of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Alexander Zverev and more recently in Montreal to Marin Cilic.
Coric had earlier missed the entire grass swing and focussed his attention on the Challenger circuit where he featured on clay. He went on to win a title at Parma and has slowly started to show some of the old spark.
How he does in the upcoming US Open Series could play a good part in his overall ride back into the top echelons of men’s tennis where he was once ranked 12th in the world.

Musetti Makes it Through the Qualifiers
Musetti is a strong player on clay, which is why he had recently also broken into the top 30 of the ATP Rankings before settling in on 33rd at the moment.
However, on grass and hard courts, Musetti’s record takes a major dip.
This year, for instance, Musetti is 4-7 on hard courts, as compared to 21-7 on clay. A win in the first round of the Pune Open early this year was followed by a rare quarterfinal appearance indoors in Rotterdam and then another first round victory in Indian Wells.
Those have been his only performances of note on this surface this season.
And much like the 2021 edition which was the first time he took to court in this tournament, Musetti needed to go through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw here. Last year, he had failed in his endeavour, but this time around his wins over Daniel Altmaier and Dusan Lajovic have propelled him through.
