Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Fabio Fognini Head to Head
This is a long-standing rivalry which has seen 11 matches between these two players and Fognini leads 9-2 on head to head.
In fact, Fognini had won their first eight meetings in a row before Ramos-Vinolas pulled two back at Vienna in 2016 and Rio in 2017.
More recently they faced off at the 2021 Wimbledon and Fognini won that opening round encounter in straight sets.

After having made no impressions in the two hard court competitions he had played to kick-start the season, Ramos-Vinolas finally notched up a win last week when he took to court in Montreal.
Following back to back losses at the Australian Open and Miami Masters first round, Ramos-Vinolas shocked successive opponents to reach the third round at the Canadian Open.
Starting out a 2/1 underdog against David Goffin in the first round there, Ramos-Vinolas defeated him in straight sets and then made it two in two against Diego Schwartzman in the second. For the second match running, Ramos-Vinolas was as big an underdog as 2/1 in that encounter.
And while he fell to the eventual finalist Hubert Hurkacz in the third, Ramos-Vinolas will know he can take a lot of confidence from those two results.

Fognini Scrapes Through as a Lucky Loser
Gone are the days when Fognini was at his prime, having won a Masters tournament as well. These days, his performances exhibit anything but the kind of player he used to be when he was once ranked ninth in the world.
Needing to make it through the qualifiers last week at Montreal too, Fognini fell in straight sets in the first round to Holger Rune. And this time around, he overcame Soon-woo Kwon in the first qualifier before falling to Marcos Giron in the second.
Fortunately for Fognini, the withdrawal of Alexander Bublik allows him a shot to win a round here.
He has just three main draw victories this season in hard court competitions and that is what makes it that much tougher for the Italian. The good news is he is up against a fellow clay-courter too.
