31-year-old Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz originally started in the Western & Southern Open as a qualifier; after beating Danka Kovinic in the opener, she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3, 1-6, 1-6.
However, the lucky loser rule got her a ticket to the main draw, and Diaz will now look to make the most of it.
It is undoubtedly a tall order for Nuria but not an impossible one. Over the course of her rocky, inconsistent season, there have been instances where the current World No. 62 has impressed.
Her highlights include a quarterfinal run in Palermo, Melbourne, Rabat and semifinal streaks in the Valencia Challenger and Monterrey Open.
Her tally for the year stands at 20-22, and over the course of her career, Parrizas Diaz has bagged 22 ITF titles and 16 runner-ups on the circuit. That should help her put up a good fight against Martincova.

Main Draw Debut for Martincova
Tereza Martincova is set to make her main draw debut in Cincinnati after successfully clearing the qualifiers. Her journey entailed wins over Irina-Camelia Begu and Magda Linette.
Now ranked World No. 71, the 27-year-old Czech has had a rocky year with far more losses than wins (14-19).
Her form on the hard courts hasn’t been that great of late either, as she lost pretty early in Prague, Citi Open, and Canadian Open – respectively to Chloe Paquet, Victoria Azarenka, and Belinda Bencic.
