Sinner Looking to Bounce Back in Cincinnati

Jannik Sinner had a solid start in Montreal but the Italian ran into eventual champion Pablo Carreno Busta who proved better in straight sets. It was not a very good match from Sinner as the Italian was thoroughly outplayed by the Spaniard who forced Sinner to overhit the ball too many times.

It was the first match for Sinner since his triumph in Umag. The Italian looked really sharp on clay but it did not translate well onto the hard courts. He plays this part of the season generally well so we should expect him to start playing much better.

A good chance comes in Cincinnati but it’s a tricky draw. Thanasi Kokkinakis is a player that can beat you if you give him the chance. Sinner has been having a superb season so far with a 36-10 record and his score on hard courts is 15-4. He played well during the Sunshine Double so it’s not hard to image that he’ll keep playing well here.

Superb Qualifiers for Kokkinakis

Thanasi Kokkinakis was forced to play the qualifiers for this event but he didn’t mind. Two strong matches from him and he’s in the main draw albeit with a bad draw. The wins were pretty solid as it confirmed Kokkinakis once again as a really strong hard-court player.

His score on the year is 22-13 and 18-7 on hard courts. He’s played well earlier in the year in the US so this is hardly surprising. The serve and forehand combo is good enough to do a lot of damage and it was on full display against Benoit Paire and Ilya Ivashka in the qualifiers.

Ivashka was able to take a set off of Kokkinakis but it was not enough to beat him. Sinner will be a much tougher opponent but Kokkinakis has the means to counter him. The serve will be key as the Italian has a great return. Keep reading if you want to find out how this might go.

Sinner v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip

So this is an interesting matchup between two players who won’t think much. We’ll see powerful serves and powerful groundstrokes. Everything that Kokkinakis does well, Sinner does better so I think this will be a rather simple affair for him.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 11/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
