Lorenzo Sonego v Blake Shelton Head to Head
This will be their first meeting.

Sonego The Qualifier
Lorenzo Sonego had to play the qualifiers to get into the main draw of this event and that’s not something he had to do in previous years. In a way, it’s a good thing for him because he came to the US from a break with his last event being Kitzbuhel on clay.
He needed some practice matches on the hard courts and playing matches certainly gave him some confidence. Particularly so because both were straight set matches and neither gave him too much trouble. Now he’ll look to continue that in the main draw with a very talented player coming up.
Blake Shelton has been playing really well on the Challenger circuit in the past couple of weeks and with a wild card he’ll get a chance to face Sonego. It’s a tricky matchup for the Italian but his hard-court prowess should help him win that one.
A 19-21 year so far has not been that good for him so he needs the wins.

Shelton’s Chance to Shine
Ben Shelton is a 19-year-old tennis player that has been playing mostly college tennis recently. A couple of challenger events this year in the US gave him a chance to prove himself and he certainly did. Some respectable players were beaten and he last contested the Chicago Challenger final on Sunday.
He was up a break in the final set but lost to Russian Roman Safiullin. It was still a good result for him and his ranking is now close to being inside the top 200. Shelton is the prototypical US player with a powerful and precise serve and some strong groundstrokes. Being young consistency is an issue but he likes to battle and does it well.
Playing at home will certainly give him some boost but the test is a tricky one. He’s going against a player who is better and had a feel for the conditions. He’s in good shape though, so if Shelton recovers well from Chicago he’ll have a chance.
Sonego v Shelton Prediction and Tip
So this is a very interesting matchup between two players who are both inconsistent. Sonego has not yet grown out of that and probably never will which makes him a tricky player to pick most of the time.
Shelton is good enough to make things interesting but I don’t think he’s ready for the big win yet. I can see three sets but Sonego as the winner.
Tip: Sonego to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
