Fritz prevented an all-Russian quarterfinal by taking down Andrey Rublev in the third round. Following back to back straight-set wins in the first two rounds of the competition, Fritz was stretched to three sets in this one but he managed to seal the win.
The American needed two and a half hours to get through to the victory but not before Rublev had tested him out completely. He won 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-5 to reach the last eight.
What was interesting to note is Fritz faced six break-points in the encounter but saved each one of them, and yet lost the first set in a tie-breaker. He retaliated hard, breaking his opponent twice in the second set to level the proceedings.
In the third, however, things looked to be held in a limbo again with neither player managing a break, Fritz saving three break-points in the sixth game. It was in the 11th game that Fritz broke Rublev and then served it out to emerge victorious.
With wins over Sebastian Baez and Nick Kyrgios already under his belt, Fritz will know he has the game to test out his opponent here.

Medvedev Overpowers Shapovalov
It was a fighting match but a case of Medvedev taking his chances as he strolled to a straight-set win over Denis Shapovalov in his third round encounter.
Medvedev registered his 22nd win in hard court competitions this season, as he registered a 7-5, 7-5 scoreline to set up his meeting with Fritz.
In an encounter where Medvedev’s first and second serve registered slightly better statistics than his opponent’s, he broke Shapovalov in the third game of the opening set. The Canadian got things back on level terms in the eighth game only to lose his serve in a rather long 11th game.
This time around Medvedev served it out to take the lead.
The second set went to serve right till the end, when Shapovalov first saved four break-points in the ninth game and lost serve in the 11th. Medvedev served it to love to set up his last eight match.
Medvedev v Fritz Prediction and Tip
This has Medvedev starting out at 1/2 favourite but it might not be the easiest result for the Russian against an in-form Fritz. Expect Fritz to take something away from this encounter.
