Auger-Aliassime Hopes to Emulate US Open 2021

He was a semifinalist at last season’s US Open and Auger-Aliassime will kick-start this year’s final Grand Slam knowing he would have liked to do better than the 13-8 win-loss record in outdoor hard court competitions.

This can be seen from how he’s gone in more recent times on hard court surfaces too.

At the US Open Series, Auger-Aliassime has featured in three tournaments and each time, a strong start has been followed by a third round exit.

At Los Cabos, a couple of straight-set wins later he fell to Cameron Norrie in three. He then defeated Norrie at Montreal only to lose to Casper Ruud in the quarterfinal. And then at the Cincinnati Masters Auger-Aliassime stunned Jannik Sinner in the third round but went down to Borna Coric in the last eight.

By extension, Auger-Aliassime shouldn’t worry too much about starting out well but the bigger question would be if he can move as effortlessly into the second week?

Ritschard Kick-Starts Maiden US Open Campaign

Ritschard has never featured in the main draw of the US Open before this and only made it to round one of one other major – Wimbledon earlier this year. A first round loss there followed and unless Ritschard can come up with a performance to remember, things could get difficult against Auger-Aliassime as well.

Because the world number 185 is coming off a rather under-par phase of tennis on hard court surfaces.

Before he made the qualifiers here at the US Open, Ritschard featured in a couple of Challenger tournaments on hard court surface and lost in the first round at both.

In fact, this US Open performance is his first time ever he featured in a hard court ATP competition at the highest level this season.

With that much of inexperience, it will need him a mini-miracle to test his Canadian opponent in this one.

Auger-Aliassime v Ritschard Prediction and Tip
