World No. 72 Marta Kostyuk got her campaign off on a winning note as she cruised past Tamara Zidansek in the first round on Monday.
The Ukrainian made a brisk start, racing to a 5-0 lead before Zidansek could win her first game of the match. However, the latter could win just one as Kostyuk wrapped up the set in the next game.
It was Zidansek who made a better start in the second set, going up 3-0, thanks to an early break, but the 20-year-old levelled up soon, before breaking the Slovenian for a second time in the contest and winning the match 6-1, 7-5.
Kostyuk has now won her opening round match for the ninth time in her 15th tour-level tournament this year. But she is yet to reach a quarterfinal this year. She has a good chance of making the last eight in Granby as she takes on a debutant on Wednesday.

Stakusic Makes an Impressive Start
Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic fought back from a set down to oust Australia’s Jaimee Fourlis in the first round on Monday. It was the Canadian’s first-ever match at the tour-level and she did put up an impressive performance on debut.
After Fourlis took the opening set, Stakusic raced to a 4-0 lead in the second. The Aussie got both the breaks back but Stakusic broke again a third time to level up the contest at one-set apiece.
The third set began with two consecutive breaks of serve, but Stakusic took charge from that point on, and dominated the set before winning the contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The World No. 630 Stakusic had qualified for her maiden main draw with a straight sets win over Ulrikke Eikeri in the first qualifying round and a three-set win over Erin Routliffe in teh second qualifier.
The 17-year-old has reached two ITF semifinals this year. Having made a brilliant debut can she build on that in the next round?
