Lacklustre Preparations for Tabilo

Alejandro Tabilo did not have the best preparation for the US Open skipping over the Master events and playing only in Winston Alem. His first match was a close win but the 2nd one saw him lose to Lorenzo Sonego. It was a quick loss for him as he’s clearly finding his way around the court again.

Tabilo had a fast start to the year with some impressive performances on clay. His first trophy slipped away but he’s been rather incapable or replicating a similar level and his performances suffered. The score is still impressive at 30-18 but most of those wins came on clay (21).

He is 5-4 on hard courts despite practically growing up on them in Canada. Hard courts should not be foreign to him but living in Chile over the years moved his tennis more towards clay. He never played at the US Open before so this will be a new experience.

It’s not the best draw but he will have a chance here if he delivers a strong performance.

Majchrzak in Poor Form

Kamil Majchrzak is a very solid tennis player currently experiencing a long run of terrible tennis. It’s really been that way and it’s not an exaggeration. He won two of the last 10 matches he played and dates back to Den Bosch at the start of June.

He has two wins in two months which is not good. Add to that the fact that he retired against Gasquet in Winston-Salem last week and we have a player who is neither fully healthy nor playing that well. It’s a shame because these courts are made for his game.

His serve is the key for him and if it’s working really well it’s almost impossible to break him. He had some good runs in New York in the past as he played in the 3rd round in 2019 but since then it’s been mostly round one exit. He didn’t have to play qualifiers this week so that’s a positive.

Not a great year overall with a 16-19 record and it doesn’t look that promising in New York.

Tabilo v Majchrzak Prediction and Tip

This is a matchup that is as close as it can get. Both players are not in the greatest position and both can win. It’s hard to predict who will really win it but I’m slight moving toward Tabilo because he looked a bit more stable than Majchrzak recently.

It’s a weak preference but I’ll side with the Chilean.
