Jiri Lehecka played only one hard-court match preparing for the US Open and that’s less than ideal. The Czech player should thrive in these conditions due to his signature serve + forehand combination however not playing a couple of events prior to the event might be an issue.
It certainly looked bleak in the opening round of Winston-Salem where Peter Gojowczyk proved better. Lehecka has had a solid season so far rising on the ranking fairly high and he has a 35-24 record overall.
His best tennis has always come on clay but he’s capable of a good level on hard courts as well. 5-3 is the record overall which is okay as he’s still fairly young and getting used to the surface. Garin is a fair chance for him but he will need to bring his best game.

Garin’s Down Year
Cristian Garin has had a very up-and-down year after enduring a tricky shoulder injury that had him question whether he would continue playing tennis. He had his decent moments this year but for the most part, it’s been rather poor from the Chilean.
It’s a shame because he’s a pretty solid tennis player whose best level is top 20 worthy. The record 16-18 indicates and struggle and he lost the last three matches he played. 3-4 is the record on hard courts and he’s had some moments on it before.
It’s going to be tough for him to simply step up here because he has not played in weeks and his last event came on clay. I don’t think he expects much from himself but if he practice well enough he might come out swinging. Not having played against Lehecka allows him to surprise him.
Lehecka v Garin Prediction and Tip
This is an interesting one especially cause both will fancy their chances. No matter how much Lehecka looks like a better fit on hard courts I’m going to back Garin here.
He was in a similar spot for Wimbledon but had an amazing week there so I’m going to assume the same here.
