Matteo Berrettini v Hugo Grenier Head to Head
While they have never faced off in a competitive match at the highest level, Berrettini and Grenier had once met on the Challenger circuit in 2017. Berrettini had won that match on hard court in three sets.

After a bit of a struggle in recent weeks, Berrettini would have been relieved to come through in his opening round match against Nicholas Jarry with consummate ease.
The world number 14 dropped just eight games in his drubbing of Jarry with the match finishing in less than two hours. He won 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to stifle a three-match losing streak that had included back to back opening defeats at Montreal and Cincinnati.
Such was Berrettini’s dominance in the encounter, he broke his opponent five times from the 10 opportunities he got in the match, but more vitally did not face a single break-point in the encounter.
Where he scored over Jarry was he kept his unforced errors to the bare minimum, just 17 in the encounter, while hitting 32 winners that culminated in Berrettini losing just six points in the match on his first serve.
He will hope to continue the same form moving forward.

Grenier Survives Etcheverry Challenge
Despite having entered the US Open as a lucky loser, Grenier had started off as a huge favourite against Tomas Etcheverry in his opener. And the 26-year-old Frenchman lived up to those expectations with a four-set win over his opponent to march into the second.
Grenier won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in nearly three hours of a contest.
It was a clinical performance from Grenier too, despite the loss of the first set. The world number 119, now at his career-best ranking, lost his serve just once in the encounter – in the opening set – and got past his opponent’s serve four times.
With 83% of the first serves won, Grenier would be rather proud of his showing, having never even reached the main draw of US Open before this. Can he put up a fight against Berrettin?
