Beatriz Haddad Maia v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between the world number 15 Haddad Maia and Konjuh who has fallen to 118th in the world.

Haddad Maia Has Three Titles This Year

At one point early this year, Haddad Maia was ranked 88th on the WTA charts with no WTA titles under her belt.

In a matter of half a year, she has grown to become one of the players to watch out with the Brazilian having made it to the 15th spot on the WTA rankings with three tournament victories.

Two of these tournament wins have come on grass while a third was on clay, leaving her with a slightly under-par record on hard court. Especially when one compares with the other two surfaces.

Haddad Maia has won 12 of her 22 matches on hard court but showed the kind of form she had on clay and grass when she reached the final of the Canadian Open earlier this month.

Simona Halep got the better of her in that title-decider and an exhausted Haddad Maia then crashed to a straight-set loss to Jelena Ostapenko in the opener at Cincinnati.

Now refreshed, Haddad Maia will hope to make a strong start here.

Konjuh Hoping for First Win in Five Months

After the kind of season Konjuh had in 2021, a lot was expected out of her coming into 2022.

And for a moment it looked like she had carried the form forward too, with back to back wins taking her to the quarterfinal of the Melbourne Summer Set 1. Another successive set of victories followed soon after to help her reach her second successive quarterfinal berth in Adelaide but since then things have gone south for her.

In fact, since winning her opener in Doha in February, Konjuh has participated in eight tournaments and won no main draw matches. Yep, you read that one right.

Which is also why, coming up against a player of the quality and form of Haddad Maia would have been the last thing Konjuh would have wanted from this draw.
