Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head
Their only previous encounter had come in the second round of the 2021 Rotterdam Open and Fucsovics had won that match indoors on hard court in straight sets.

Having featured in the fourth round once before at the US Open, Fokina carved out a 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 win over Nishioka in a match that last two hours and 14 minutes.
Slamming nine aces in the contest to his opponent’s zero, Fokina won 81% of his first serve points. And while he was broken four times in the encounter, he retaliated eight times with the same.
It was Fokina’s 42 winners that stood head and shoulders over his opponent’s 15 but what the Spaniard would love to change is the 48 unforced errors that came off his racquet. Can he improve upon his game even more against Fucsovics?

Fucsovics Gains from Cressy Retirement
Fucsovics will have an opportunity to emulate his best ever performance at the US Open when he takes to court following a win over the much favoured Maxime Cressy in his opener.
Having reached the third round at the 2020 US Open, Fucsovics was 6-7 (4), 7-5, 5-1 up when Cressy threw in the towel following an encounter that promised to deliver for the neutral.
It was Fucsovics’ ability to grit it out that held him in a good stead as he overturned Cressy’s control of the match despite being a set and 5-4 down. The Hungarian broke back at that stage and then again to scoop up the equaliser.
Fucsovics then ran through the third set before a struggling Cressy called it quits. It was Fucsovics’ first main draw win on hard courts since his first round victory at Miami this March.
