Daria Sniguer took part in the Ukraine charity event leading up to the US Open on these courts and admitted that it gave her a lot of confidence in the match against Halep. The match was a brilliant one from the 20-year-old who won in three sets after surviving a later surge from Halep.

The Romanian never found a very good response to them and bowed out in round one of the grand slam with much disappointment. Snigur will now look to continue her decent season in the next round and try to break into the top 100.

Marino Makes Winning Start
Rebecca Marino took advantage of a really solid draw in New York beating Magdalena Frech in round one and move on. Now she gets to play a youngster after a huge upset and it’s probably the best spot you can play them.
It’s going to be emotional, there is a bit of pressure to back up the huge win and Marino is a player who can break up the rhythm of Snigur with her serves. The Canadian is having a very good year with a 39-18 record and 28-10 on hard courts.
New York was never the best place for her and she struggled here over the past few years. She’s looking better this year and will fancy a chance to make the 3rd round.
The past few weeks were quite steady for her so she should have believed in herself. A lot will depend on how Snigur plays and if she’s consistent from the baseline but Marino will try to make it hard for her.
