Shuai Zhang v Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before at New Haven nine years ago, Schmiedlova winning in straight sets.

She was given a tough looking first round draw against the Swiss number 30 seed, Jil Belen Teichmann, but in the end, dealt with her challenge with relative ease.
In the first set, Zhang was the first to drop her serve, but she hit back to level immediately, and then broke once more. With Zhang serving for the set, Teichmann had a break opportunity of her own, but could not take it, and soon fell behind.
When the Swiss dropped her serve again early in the second set, the writing was on the wall as far as she was concerned. But, just for good measure, Zhang broke her again, and then served out.

Schmiedlova Breezes Past Argentine
Schmiedlova has now equalled her previous best showing at any Grand Slam by reaching the second round here, and she did so without over-taxing herself against the Argentine Nadia Podoroska, now ranked 212 in the world after a series of injury problems.
The Slovak secured an early break and seemed in control of the first set, before Podoroska produced a break of her own. But Schmiedlova responded, broke once more and then served out to take the first set.
When Schmiedlova then took the first four games of the second set, the match was a as good as over, and she was able to ease her way to the finish line after that.
