Cameron Norrie v Joao Sousa Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players in the past and Norrie has won both times in straight sets. One of them came in a hard court competition, way back in 2019 at the Auckland Open.

Not that too many expected the current form of Benoit Paire to have tasted Norrie in any way but the Brit ensured there were no surprises despite a fighting second set.
Paire did go a break up in the second set of this encounter but Norrie quickly broke back and pushed it into a tie-breaker which he won easily. On the two sides of that set, there were bagels for the Brit.
In the end, Norrie came through in an hour and 40 minutes, winning 6-0, 7-6 (1), 6-0 to reach round two.
This victory follows Norrie’s semifinal appearance at the Cincinnati as he now looks to live up to his promise of having gained confidence of going deep into Grand Slam competitions.

Sousa Surprise for McDonald
In what was one of the surprises of the first round, Sousa overcame Mackenzie McDonald despite coming into the encounter as a 21/10 underdog to win it.
Having entered the tournament on the back of three successive defeats and with just five wins from nine hard court competition matches, it was no surprise that Sousa was taken to the cleaners in the first set.
But the script was altered when Sousa first broke early in the second set and despite getting broken back, won the ensuing tie-breaker. It was no different in the third either when Sousa got the early lead only to be forced to a 6-6 scoreline. Another tie-breaker and another win for Sousa took them to a third which was a lot easier this time for the Portuguese player.
He broke in the third and completed a victory in the ninth with a second break of serve.
Things could get a lot more difficult for Sousa in this second round encounter.
Norrie v Sousa Prediction and Tip
Norrie is 1/20 to win this and he should too with ease. The big question is if he can manage that in straight sets and we believe that to be the case too given he hasn’t dropped a set to Sousa in the past as well.
