Miomir Kecmanovic v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, on clay in Belgrade earlier this year, Kecmanovic winning in straight sets for the loss of just three games.

Kecmanovic Given a Scare by Teenage Wildcard

Kecmanovic was handed an easy looking first-round draw against the 16 year old American Learner Tien, who had been granted a wildcard after winning the US tennis Association’s under-18 Championship.

Far from being overawed by his surroundings, however, Tien made the better start of the pair, and an early break enabled him to go on to take the first set.

At that pointy Miomir was faced with the prospect of losing to an opponent ranked more than a thousand places below him in the world, and that may have sparked him to life, because he broke Tien in the opening game of the second set and then twice more to level the match.

Both players saved break points in the third set before Kecmanovic broke once more to lead for the first time in the match.

And then he repeated that feat by breaking again in the third game of the fourth set. Tien had four points to break back next games, could not take any of them, and the Serb was able to close out the match.

The teenager, though, can hold his head high up after such an auspicious main tour debut.

Gasquet Downs Japanese Opponent

Gasquet has a good record in New York. He made the semi-finals in 2014, the last eight two years later, and has three other fourth round appearances on his CV. And, he got his latest campaign off to a winning start by beating Taro Daniel of Japan, a man currently ranked four places below him in the world.

The Frenchman started the match in the best possible way by breaking the Daniel serve immediately, and he was able to consolidate that to take the first set.

The second set then saw the pair swap breaks, but with no further division possible, it went to a tie-break. Gasquet won just a single point in it as Daniel brought it back to all-square.

However, Gasquet reasserted control by breaking early in the third set, and then followed that up with another break as the Daniel game began to falter.

When the man from Japan was broken again at the start of the fourth set, all seemed lost from his viewpoint. To his credit, he did break back, but immediately surrendered his serve again. This time, Gasquet did not let him off the hook, and broke him once more to seal the victory.

Kecmanovic v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic won their only previous match earlier this year easily and, although that was on clay, he will be confident of repeating the feat again.
