Medvedev Knocks out Kozlov
Number one and defending champion seed, Daniil Medvedev (15/8 with bet365) beat Stefan Kozlov 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 to kickstart his campaign at the Flushing Meadows.
The Russian is aiming to reach the final for the third time in New York; by the looks of it, his path to the round of 16 is effectively open. From a betting perspective, the outright champion odds on him are not likely to change for the next few matches.
However, the equation will vary – if he runs into Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round. The Aussie is at a respectable 7/1 (with bet365) to win the Slam. Following his emphatic, straight-set win in the opener, bookmakers may not want to be that generous on him as he proceeds further.
Similarly, Rafael Nadal remains at 3/1 (with bet365) after surviving a minor scare against the Australian wildcard Rinky Hijikata in four sets. The 36-year-old has cast doubts on his form following a lackluster US Open swing – but we cannot undermine the four-time champion.
For bettors, Nadal always makes for a good wager. The bookmakers may be inclined to increase the odds on him if he stutters more in the following matches, giving rise to more potential profits.
Apart from this, the likes of Carlos Alcaraz 9/2 (with bet365) and Matteo Berrettini 14/1 (with bet365) continue to retain their odds – following a comfortable start.
Swiatek Continues to be at the Top
Iga Swiatek is at 11/4 (with bet365 here) to win the women’s US Open this season. The odds have not changed much following her straight-set win over Jasmine Paolini in the opener.
And with the early exits of Amanda Anisimova and Jelena Ostapenko from her bracket, the odds are likely to remain the same until she reaches the quarters.
A lot will also depend on how the likes of Garbine Muguruza (50/1 with bet365 here) and Petra Kvitova (28/1 with bet365 here) fare. These are likely the next potential threats that Swiatek may face. If they also lose early on, bookmakers may be inclined to reduce the odds on the Pole further.
We also have Serena Williams pegged to win at 50/1. If she surpasses Anett Kontaveit next, those odds may drop considerably as the bracket then opens up for her.
Other top seeds like Ons Jabeur (16/1), Aryna Sabalenka (11/1), Paula Badosa (33/1), and Maria Sakkari (25/1) have all gotten through – without drastically changing odds.
