Belinda Bencic v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with Cirstea having won both.
Both matches came hard court competitions, one in Melbourne last year and another at the Cincinnati Open two weeks ago.

Despite starting out as a heavy favourite in her opening round match against Andrea Petkovic, Bencic needed three sets to get past her German opponent. That followed a first round loss in Cincinnati to Cirstea and a quarterfinal loss in Toronto at the hands of Beatriz Haddad Maia.
That would be a worry for Bencic, who looked to have run into some brilliant form from the time she made it to the Miami Open semifinal, and then followed that up with a title victory in Charleston.
Even more recently Bencic was a finalist on the grass courts of Berlin but from there on, she seems to have hit a bit of a roadblock.
Which is why needing two hours and 12 minutes to win her three-setter against a player starting out at 4/1 odds would have caused a lot more worry. Can she now overcome Cirstea in this one?

Cirstea Sends Siegemund Packing
Cirstea was on court for an hour and 48 minutes, which was enough for the Romanian to register a straight-set win over Laura Siegemund in the first round of this competition.
She won 6-4, 6-4 to seal a delicious match-up with Bencic, despite struggling to hold serve at times and getting broken three times in the encounter. In turn, however, Cirstea broke Siegemund on five occasions.
While Cirstea always kept her nose in front in the first set, it was Siegemund who drew first blood in the second to go 4-2 up. From there on, it was all one-way traffic for Cirstea who broke back twice to seal the deal.
What Cirstea will be a tad wary of is her form – it’s been five tournaments since she made it past the second round, having last done it in Birmingham in June where she had reached the semifinal.

This is an intriguing battle with Bencic starting out a favourite at 2/5 but Cirstea holding the head to head advantage. We think Cirstea could edge her opponent out, at least in one of the sets.
