Pablo Carreno Busta v Alex De Minaur Head to Head
The head-to-head is tied at 1-1. Both matches took place on clay, one at the French Open in 2019 which Carreno Busta won fairly routienly, and the other at the Valencia Challenger which was won by De Minaur.

Carreno Busta Survives Bublik
Pablo Carreno Busta’s progress into the third round was not smooth sailing. The Spaniard, who has enjoyed sensational summer in North America (courtesy of that Masters 1000 title in Montreal), needed to show his steely resolve and mental fortitude to overcome the big-serving Alexander Bublik.
Bublik has a knack for upsetting the favorites when you least expect it as evidenced by his shock title triumph in Montpellier earlier this year (defeated Alexander Zverev).
And the Kazakh was in no mood of caving to Carreno Busta’s counterpunching tactics. He served big from the get-go (27 aces in the match) and deservedly won the first set.
But it didn’t take long before the Spaniard found his range in the next three sets, bringing his best tennis in the most critical moments including saving six points in that dramatic fourth set.

De Minaur Holds Off Garin
In a rematch from their 2019 showdown, Alex De Minaur came out on top yet again, beating Cristian Garin 6-3 6-0 4-6 6-2 in front of a sharply divided crowd on Court 5.
The first point of the match was the precursor of what was to come as the two-player players tried to outwit each other in a 19-shot rally and which ended with a forehand winner by De Minaur. He grabbed control of the match from that moment on and went up two sets to love and a break up in the third.
But complacency kicked in and the Australian 18th seed was pegged back. Garin showed some mental resolve in the third set to pinch it 6-4. However, that momentum didn’t last in the fourth set as De Minaur earned two insurance breaks to win the match.
De Minaur will now be looking to pick up his 10th win on the North American hard courts this summer – a run that saw him clinch the Atlanta Open title at the start of July.
Carreno Busta v De Minaur Prediction and Tip
Both players are riding high off a fine summer with title wins in Montreal and Atlanta respectively. Carreno Busta might just be the safe pick here. New York tends to be a happy hunting ground for him and has overcome some stern tests in his first two rounds.
