Garbine Muguruza v Petra Kvitova Head to Head
This has been a rather one-sided rivalry so far with Kvitova leading Muguruza 5-1 over their six meetings.
Interestingly, Muguruza had won their first match at the WTA Finals of 2015 but since Kvitova has triumphed at Stuttgart, Beijing, Doha (twice) and at the 2017 US Open.

There was a minor hiccup on her way though when Muguruza fell 0-3 behind in the second set but once she recovered to break back, there was no looking back for her. Kvitova, however, could prove to be a way stronger opponent.

Kvitova Benefits from Kalinina Withdrawal
After having registered a straight-set win over Erika Andreeva in the first round, Kvitova did not need to lift her racquet for the second round as her opponent withdrew from the encounter.
Anhelina Kalinina has seen a brilliant rise in the world of tennis and might have proved to be a tough opponent for Kvitova but the Ukrainian fell ill and had to forego her place in the competition.
Kvitova will now hope to continue with the same kind of form she had shown in Cincinnati two weeks ago where she had overcome the likes of Ons Jabeur and Madison Keys to reach the final.
