Nadal Survives Fognini Test

Rafael Nadal found himself in a bloody win with Fabio Fognini, accidentally hitting his nose with his own racquet in the fourth set. That did not deter the 22-time Grand Slam champion as the Spaniard picked himself up after a short medical timeout and took the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.

Despite the drama, bookmakers continue to pit Nadal at 3/1 (with bet365) to win the tournament – which is not surprising as he is among the most tenacious performer on the ATP Tour.

If anything, this equation is likely to remain the same until the quarterfinal – where he might find himself facing young guns like Cameron Norrie (22/1), Denis Shapovalov (50/1) or Andrey Rublev (40/1) – all odds with bet365.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz remains at a steady 4/1 after another straight-set win over Federico Coria in round two.  The equation may change slightly in the next round if he faces the veteran Croat Marin Cilic (50/1) – post which, he may run into Jannik Sinner (12/1).

It is worth noting that Cilic’s upcoming opponent Daniel Evans is at a whooping 250/1 to win the Slam. Those odds are quite good, but for the risk-averse punters, backing him to go a bit further may lead to decent profits.

An Interesting Mix in Women’s Half

Women’s tennis has always been huge for value bettors – and the current US Open proves just that.

Local favourite Danielle Collins reached round three and now finds herself placed at 33/1 (with bet365) after a solid start. She is poised to next beat Alize Cornet and Aryna Sabalenka (9/1) in the fourth round.

Punters may want to lock in the odds on Collins to reach the quarterfinal.

In round three, a few heavy hitters are also set to face off – Grand Slam winners Garbine Muguruza (40/1) and Petra Kvitova (28/1). The match can go either way, but the outright odds will be slashed for whoever takes the cake.

Similarly, Karolina Pliskova and Belinda Bencic will also lock horns, both placed respectively at 25/1 and 22/1.

Interestingly, Victoria Azarenka – a former US Open champion – is now at 33/1. Should she survive Petra Martic, bookies will consider dropping the price on her.

Lastly, 19-year-old American Qinwen Zheng is well-positioned for a breakthrough run at the Flushing Meadows. Armed with a career-high ranking and incredible momentum, she has a good chance of winning her bracket, including dismissing Iga Swiatek (11/5).

Zheng is at 33/1 (with bet365) – which is a generous price considering her current form.
