Nadia Podoroska v Kyoka Okamura Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between then 25 year old Argentine, and the Japanese woman, a year older.

Podoroska on the Comeback Trail After Injury Lay-Off

Podoroska first burst on the scene when, in 2020, she became the first qualifier to reach the semi-finals of the French Open, and she was named WTA Newcomer later that year.

The following year, she enjoyed more success in Paris, reaching the semi-finals of the doubles, and entered the top 40 in singles for the first time.

But following the US Open in 2021, she had to step away from the tour for a while, struggling with the pain that she had been suffering with for some time.

It was only in June this year that she returned to action, entering the qualifying competition in Wimbledon and going on to reach the second round there.

Subsequently, she was runner-up in a clay court final on the ITF circuit in Portugal, lost in the first round in Granby, and at the same stage of the US Open.

Main Draw Appearance a Novelty for Okamura

Last month, Okamura won her second ITF title in South Korea, six years after her only previous other singles success on home soil in Japan.

She has also won two doubles titles at that level this year, in Thailand and South Korea again (where she completed the double).

This though is a novelty for her, appearing in the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time this year.

However, she earned her shot against Podoroska by beating first Sowjanya Bavisetti of India and then Lina Glushko of Israel, both in straight sets.

Podoroska v Okamura Prediction and Tip

Although their world rankings are almost comparable that is misleading, because Podoroska’s has been badly affected by her long injury lay-off. She is much better than her ranking suggests and should beat Okamura with ease.

Tip: Podoroska to win: 3/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
