Second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia won another match in straight sets, knocking out Spain’s Cristina Bucșa on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Slovenia Open.
The World no. 18 was dominant in the first set and she broke the Spaniard twice to go one-set up. In the second, it was Bucșa who broke first to lead 2-4. However, the left-handed Brazilian fought back to win the last four games and clinch the contest 6-1, 6-4.
In all, Haddad Maia won 78% first serve points and saved 6 of 7 break points. She also had number of breaking opportunities but she converted just 4 of 13.
Haddad Maia, who won her first two titles in Nottingham and Birmingham and finished runner-up at the Canadian Open, also won a WTA 125 title from two finals this year. In addition, the Brazilian also has won two doubles titles from three finals.
In all she is 46-18, from all levels this season and 19-11 on hard courts. She also won her opening round match in Slovenia in straight sets, beating Clara Tauson 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
She will be aiming to reach her sixth tour-level semifinal of the season on Friday.

Bogdan Holds Off Zidansek
Ana Bogdan moved into the quarterfinals of the tournament with a second straight three-set victory.
The Romanian, ranked No. 65 in the world, had begun the tournament with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory over eighth seed Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round.
On Thursday, she held off local favourite Tamara Zidansek in three. Bogdan won the first set with ease, but lost a hard fought second set in the tiebreak. The Romanian then raced to a 4-0 lead in the third set. Zidansek pulled a break back but Bogdan restored the two-break advantage in the very next game and then served out the match for a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 victory.
Bogdan improved to 30-13 from all levels and is 10-4 on hard courts. She reached one WTA final this year, finishing runner-up in Warsaw. She also won a WTA 125 final in Iași, Romania and won her 14th ITF title in January in what was her only hard court final of the season.
Bogdan is looking to reach her second tour-level semifinal of the season.
