With his recent results in hard court competitions at the highest not going his way, Duckworth was forced to feature in a couple of Challenger competitions.
While Duckworth was the finalist at the first one at Cassis, he got knocked out in the first round of the next one at Istanbul. Which is why, despite coming into his opener here against Alexei Popyrin as a bit of a favourite at 4/5, it would have been tough to put one’s money on his victory.
And that is exactly how things went too with Duckworth eventually triumphing but not before he had been taken to three sets and needed two hours and 20 minutes to carve out the win.
Duckworth won 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 after both players shared four breaks of serves in the first two sets of the encounter. It was only in the decider that Duckworth ran away with a couple more of those while not facing a single break-point.

Qualifier Krueger Stuns Eubanks
Christopher Eubanks was a whopping 1/3 favourite coming into his opening encounter against Krueger but his opponent had the last laugh as he made it through without any issues.
Krueger, who had come through into the main draw with a couple of wins in the qualifiers, registered a 6-4, 6-4 win over Eubanks in a match lasting an hour and 24 minutes.
Rather interestingly, while Krueger wasted seven break-point opportunities, he not only converted two others but also did not face any break-points of his own.
In doing so, Krueger registered only his fourth main draw win for the season to reach the second round. Can he register his first ever set of successive wins for the year?
