Roger Federer/Rafael Nadal v Jack Sock/Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
Federer and Nadal have combined in doubles before and it had come at the Laver Cup itself. This match came in its first ever edition when the pair overcame Jack Sock and Sam Querrey to help their team earn two crucial points.
The Federer-Nadal duo hasn’t played Sock and Tiafoe before this though.

In what will be a rather momentous occasion, albeit a sad one too, Federer will be walking out one last time to feature in competitive tennis as he partners Nadal in this doubles match at the Laver Cup.
With injuries having taken a toll on his body, Federer had announced his retirement from tennis post this tournament and till very recently, wasn’t sure if he would even play a match during this competition.
As things stand, he will be featuring one last time alongside long-term rival and friend Nadal in a doubles match.
And it won’t be easy given it’s been a while since Federer played any kind of tennis – his last match having come at the 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Nadal has been around and doing well more recently, so fitness wouldn’t be a concern for him. But the bigger question is if he would be able to inspire his partner in pulling through the encounter without any injury worries.
The Spaniard had reached the fourth round at US Open recently but more interestingly featured in a doubles match early this season in Melbourne. He had combined with Jaume Munar to win that encounter but much like Federer his doubles play has been more or less restricted to Laver Cup.

Sock & Tiafoe No Pushovers
The biggest advantage that Sock and Tiafoe will have coming into this encounter is the pressure would be completely off them. In the grand scheme of things, most of the eyeballs at the court – and for that matter all over the world – would be on their opponents and that should allow them to play to the best of their ability.
And of all the players in action during this match, Sock has an added benefit of having played a lot of doubles this season.
In fact, as recently as last month, Sock had combined with Nick Kyrgios to win the Washington Open title while also finishing a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon partnering Denis Kudla. Earlier this year, Sock and John Isner had won the Indian Wells Masters tournament too.
And while Tiafoe isn’t that experienced in doubles, he has featured in 11 men’s matches this year – winning just three though.
Playing against a team which has barely played any doubles together, and which has one of the players with dodgy fitness, Sock and Tiafoe could consider themselves the favourites here.
Federer/Nadal v Sock/Tiafoe Prediction and Tip
This match is not so much about winning or losing but about bidding a legend a farewell. Result won’t matter too much in that context but from winning the Laver Cup perspective, Sock and Tiafoe would hope to pocket this point.
