Nikoloz Basilashvili is having some problems in his private life and it’s clearly impacted his play on the court. This year is another poor one from the Georgian as h has a 14-28 record. His last win happened in Metz but it was a win thanks to the retirement of his opponent.
He was actually losing the match when the retirement happened. His next closest win happened at Wimbledon and that tells you how poor his season is going. It’s just a complete lack of any kind of consistency.
That’s just how he plays, he always attacks and commits many errors. On a good day, he has more winners and wins.
On a bad day, he loses and it’s been a lot of bad days recently. It’s hard to tell what you can expect from Basilashvili but it certainly won’t be a consistent effort. He has a chance to win this match but then again how motivated will he really be?

Verdasco Still Solid
Fernando Verdasco hasn’t played in peak form for many years yet the Spaniard refuses to say goodbye to tennis. He’s travelling around the world and occasionally playing tennis not being against playing challenger events either.
It’s been a fairly solid year for him as he has a 30-27 record.
His 57 matches played so far this season are one of the highest of all players on Tour and that shows the commitment he has to tennis, even at age 38. He has a winning record on hard courts and he still can play well on the surface. The forehand never went away even though it’s not as powerful anymore.
Verdasco will certainly be more motivated for this one than Basilashvili and if he produces a solid effort he can certainly win it. He won their most recent clash at the Australian Open in 2020 as well leading the H2H 2-1.

So this is an interesting matchup as I do think that Basilashvili is the better player. However, I do think that Verdasco will be more motivated and sometimes that is more than enough.
