Tomas Martin Etcheverry v Roman Safiullin Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 23 year old Argentine, and Safiullin, who is two years older.

Etcheverry Upsets Sixth Seed

Although Etcheverry has appeared in three Challenger finals this year, winning one of them, and broken into the top 100 for the first time in his career, his opening round victory over Aslan Karatsev, the world number 39, and sixth seed in Tel Aviv, still counts as a minor upset.

The match began with both men struggling to hold serve, but it was Etcheverry who managed the first break and he went on to take the first set, clinching it with a further break.

The second set was dominated by serve, except for a brief interlude in the middle where the pair swapped breaks.

However, Etcheverry’s form deserted him in the tie-break which Karatsev claimed without conceding a point.

The third set began with the first three games going against serve, by the end of which sequence Etcheverry was a break up. From there he was able to serve out for the match.

Safiullin Shakes Off Ring Rust

Safiullin had enjoyed a good season on the Challenger tour, but he had not played since failing to qualify for the US Open.

Any signs of ring rust, though, soon dissipated in the heat of battle against Hugo Grenier of France, another man who has enjoyed success on the Challenger tour recently, in their first round match.

Grenier, ranked six places higher than Safiullin, began the stronger, and took the first set courtesy of a single break of serve,

However, the roles were revered in the second set, and this time it was Safiullin who claimed it.

He then seized control of the match by breaking Grenier at the start of the third set, and then once more. From there he cruised to victory.

Etcheverry v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

Notwithstanding his victory over Karatsev, Etcheverry is better known as a clay court player, and Safiullin will believe that he may have the edge.

Tip: Safiullin to win: 3/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
