Sinner Coming off US Open Quarterfinals

While Sinner did participate in the Davis Cup for Italy in the lead-up to this tournament, the result he would look to carry with him into Sofia is the quarterfinal appearance at the US Open before that.

The Italian reached the quarterfinal there and then played the match of his life against Carlos Alcaraz in that round. It lasted five sets and could have gone either way before the eventual US Open champion came through to clinch it.

At the Davis Cup, Sinner overcame Francisco Cerundolo in his first match before going down to Mikael Ymer in the second.

He now plays his first match indoors for the season and as a two-time defending champion here, will start off with oodles of confidence.

Borges Squeaks Past Basic

Before the start of this season, Borges had won just one main draw match on the ATP tour and played a total of two. This season has been a turnaround of sorts with Borges entering this competition with a 4-4 win-loss record, including a couple of victories in the Davis Cup.

And now, in the first round here, he made it his fifth win for 2022 with a comeback-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Mirza Basic.

In a match lasting an hour and 36 minutes, Borges lost his serve once – in the first set – before managing to get a hold on his serving and breaking his opponent three times. Basic failed to get anything back in return to bow out.

Borges will know Sinner is a different kettle of fish though and unless he can come up with something potent, those odds of 1/20 for his opponent’s win look par for the course.

Sinner v Borges Prediction and Tip

With rustiness not a factor, Sinner should not have much of a problem here, registering an easy win. Under 19.5 games likely too.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 1/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
