Lorenzo Musetti v Jan-Lennard Stuff
Jan-Lennard Struff has had some amazing performances this year but he has been largely disappointing because he was unable to do it on a consistent basis. At some events he was great while in others he was simply awful. This week in Sofia he looks in pretty decent shape with a chance to make the semi-final.
He only needs to defeat another player who is looking really solid and that’s Musetti. It’s been a bit of a disappointing year for the Italian as well but he turned it around in recent weeks. He barely battled past a native player in the previous round but he won the match and moved on.
They haven’t played so far so this will be an interesting matchup between them. Struff is tough to play in these conditions as he has a powerful serve and likes to volley. Musetti has ways around it as he can return from far behind the line and has some decent topspin on both sides.
The Italian has more talent and he has looked quite good so I could see him getting the win in three sets.
Tip: Musetti to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Holger Rune v Ilya Ivashka
The Sofia Open brings us another decent match with Rune taking on Ivashka. Both of these players have played really strong tennis so far and both have the tools to succeed in conditions like this. The courts are not super fast but a precise serve and really strong forehands give them a chance to hurt the other.
Rune is better from the baseline as he has tremendous shot-making ability but his game can wildly vary depending on the day. He is the better talent but Ivashka is far more consistent. You always know he’s going to be pretty solid so it’s on Rune to produce a level good enough to beat him.
They never played before so adjusting during the match will be important as well and both have shown the ability to do so. Rune is a better problem solver on the court simply due to having more weapons in his arsenal. He’s not shy to volley either and that’s a plus.
It’s going to be close but expect Rune to solve his way to a victory.
Tip: Rune to win the match: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Barbora Krejcikova v Beatriz Haddad Maia
A grand slam champion and one of the most consistent players this year will face off in Tallinn and it should be a great match. These players are very similar because both of them are very consistent, at least Krejcikova was before the injury. She is still finding her way because she lost a lot of confidence due to not being able to play but she’ll get it back eventually.
The Czech player has a good serve and very decent groundstrokes. The same can be said for Haddad Maia as the Brazilian broke out in major fashion this year. A couple of trophies, consistent performances every week and she had a chance to find herself in the WTA Finals.
Krejcikova won their only match but it was back in 2016 and it was an ITF match. We can discard that one because so much changed for both since then. Haddad Maia had a far better season as Krejcikova dealt with injuries and we can expect the Brazilian to be more confident.
Even if I expect a very close one, you have to take Maia here simply because Krejcikova is only getting back her form. I don’t think she’s good enough to beat a top 10-level player right now.
Tip: Maia to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
