Kudermetova Stays on a Roll

Veronika Kudermetova pulled off another emphatic performance to storm into the semifinals of the Jasmin Open.

The World no. 12 lost serve in the very first game of the quarterfinal against Diane Parry on Friday, but recovered immediately and didn’t put a foot wrong again in the match to beat the Frenchwoman 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 29 minutes.

The Russian struck eight aces in the match and won 90% (26 of 29) of her first serve points. She converted four of 11 break points while saving one of the two that she faced.

It was a third straight sets win in the tournament for Kudermetova, who was also a semifinalist in her last tournament at the Japan Open.

Kudermetova had begun her campaign with a 6-1, 6-0 shellacking of Varvara Gracheva in the first round. She did drop a few games in the second round, but was dominant in her 6-3, 6-4 win over Magdalena Frech.

The 2021 Charleston champion is looking to reach her fourth final of the season. She finished runners-up in Melbourne, Dubai and Istanbul this year. Can she improve her 37-18 season record on Saturday?

Cornet Battles Past Zidansek

Alize Cornet, too, won her third straight match without dropping a set, but her quarterfinal against Tamara Zidansek was far tougher than the first two rounds.

The World no. 37 needed two hours and 22 minutes to hold off the Slovenian in a contest where both the sets went over 60 minutes.

After conceding a break in the eighth game of the first set, Zidansek saved two set points in the next game before converting a sixth break point to keep the set alive. She was however broken for a second time by Cornet in the last game which helped the Frenchwoman build a one-set-to-love lead.

In the second set, Cornet had two match points while serving at 5-3, but Zidansek saved them both to stay in the contest. Cornet then saved two set points in an engaging tiebreak, before edging out the World no. 101, 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).

Cornet had beaten Brazil’s Laura Pigossi 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 in the first round and had beaten Harriet Dart 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.

The 32-year-old, who is 25-22 overall this season, will be playing in her third semifinal of the season, having lost in the final four stage in Bad Homburg and Cleveland.

Kudermetova v Cornet Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova has been very consistent throughout the season and has shown great form in the tournament. Expect the Russian to dump out the Frenchwoman in the semis.
