Arthur Rinderknech v Carlos Taberner Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between these two players before this at the highest level but they have faced off on the Challenger tour and Taberner had won that one in 2019.

Ever since Rinderknech featured in the Vancouver Challenger and reached the final there in August, he has managed to find a way to get himself some important wins. Which is also why he has managed to maintain a steady rise in his rankings, reaching just eight places from his career-best of 48th in the world.

At the US Open, he reached the second round where he was forced out by Daniil Medvedev, but he has followed that up with solid showings indoors.

He was a quarterfinalist at both, the Metz Open and Tel Aviv Open, putting up decent performances in both those competitions. Wins over Jaume Munar, Nikoloz Basilashvili and even Diego Schwartzman ensured he managed to cement those places.

What Rinderknech will now hope for is a quick workout here before he can turn his attention to bigger challenges like possibly facing Sebastian Baez next round and Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals.

Taberner Makes it as a Lucky Loser

It’s plain and simple. Taberner likes playing on hard courts, indoor or otherwise, as much as Novak Djokovic likes getting vaccinated.

And this can be seen from the number of appearances he has made in such matches this season too – a mere one main draw match so far. That came at the Australian Open and Taberner lost it.

Even here in Gijon, Taberner has made it through to the main draw thanks to player withdrawals. He won his opening qualifier against Filip Cristian Jianu but then fell to 6-2, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Alexey Vatutin in the second despite being a 2/5 favourite.

Now he has the opportunity to win his first hard court match for 2022 but given his track record on such a surface, it looks highly unlikely he would make the cut.

Rinderknech v Taberner Prediction and Tip

Rinderknech is 3/10 to win this and 8/11 to do that in straight sets – go for either of them depending on your risk appetite.

Tip: Rinderknech to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
