Jule Niemeier v Jasmine Paolini
A very interesting matchup awaits us in Cluj-Napoca and Niemeier takes on Jasmine Paolini who is a very tricky player who always battles hard and can outplay objectively more talented players due to that persistence. Interestingly enough they only played once so far and Paolini was able to win that match.
It happened this year in Parma not long ago with Paolini coming through in three sets. I expect an equally tough match tomorrow with the chances of both being pretty equal. Both of them play okay on hard courts with a high preference for clay.
Niemier is also very good on grass as the raw power works well there. As said, the German has the heavier game but Paolini is far more consistent and tends to move around the court better. It’s a very interesting matchup on paper that can go either way to be fair.
I do think indoors that Niemier has the advantage albeit slight so a close win for her.
Tip: Niemeier to Win, Over 20.5: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Alexander Bublik v J.J. Wolf
Another interesting matchup but this one will be played in Florence. Two similar players but also quite different as Bublik is far looser with his tennis and that can actually work in his favour here. He’s far mor aggressive with his return which can also work in his favour here as Wolf has issues when his serve is not effective.
The somewhat slower courts will give both players a chance to unleash from the baseline and who does it more efficiently will prevail. Their lone clash so far went to Wolf but it happened three years ago in Cincinnati. Since then Bublik improved quite a bit, more so than Wolf.
I do think we will see a competitive match but I’m unsure that it will be very close. The player from Kazakhstan is 12-3 indoors this year with two finals, one of which he won. I do think he will take this in two especially if he takes it seriously.
Tip: Bublik to win in straight sets: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Dominic Thiem v Francisco Cerundolo
Dominic Thiem has a good chance to book a semi-final against an Argentine who generally doesn’t have much experience indoors but plays a very attractive and attacking type of tennis. The forehand of Francisco will become one of the better ones on Tour in a few years as it’s already pretty efficient.
Thiem played two different matches so far at the event with the first being amazing and the second one quite poor. He’ll need to find some middle ground for this one otherwise he’ll get beaten, especially if he plays like in the previous round again.
Cerundolo will deliver his solid effort and if good enough, he’ll be rewarded with the win. They never played so that goes against Thiem but he’s 8-3 indoors so far and he’s generally been very good in the past. Even so, we think the Argentine will be able to do it in three sets so if you’re unsure of that, perhaps an over on games is another option.
Tip: Cerundulo to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
