Tomas Berdych v Gilles Simon Head to Head
The rivalry between the two players can be traced as far as 2006. Over the course of the last 12 years or so, the duo has met 14 times and impressively, the tally is currently tied at 7-7.
Of these seven wins, Berdych got three of them in his last three meetings with Simon – all in straight sets. They last met in the 2017 ATP Lyon, where the Czech won 6-4, 6-0.
Berdych Finds his Stride
The former World No. 4 spent most of his previous season on the sidelines owing to a back injury. He missed the second half of the year and as a result, he slipped out of the top 50.
However, it is absolutely fair to say that the time off has done wonders for Berdych, who is now looking as sharp as ever. With a win-loss record of 10-3 as of Rotterdam, the Czech is quickly finding his way back into the top.
He started the season with a runner-up feat Doha, where he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the final. He then played in the Australian Open where he lost in the fourth round to Rafael Nadal. And last week, he was involved in Montpellier where he was a semifinalist.
Berdych has been looking highly consistent this season and if he keeps this up, he will move into the top 30 soon. His last title came in 2016 Shenzhen.
Simon Looking to Build on his Form
The Frenchman is currently the World No. 31 – 28 places above Berdych. He has had a pretty interesting start to the season so far although, his form appears to have dipped over the last couple of weeks.
In Pune and Sydney – right before the Australian Open, he reached the semifinal. In Melbourne, however, he made it as far as the second round before losing to Alex Bolt. Unfortunately for Simon, that loss of form followed him to Montpellier too, where he lost his opening match to the eventual champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Last season, he won a couple of titles – ATP Pune and Metz. In addition to this, he was also the runner-up in Lyon and reach the penultimate rounds in a few competitions.
Needless to mention, he is a strong player who is capable of delivering some interesting results here.
Berdych v Simon Predictions & Tips
It is fair to say that the two players are evenly matched for this fixture. They are well-versed with each others’ plays. However, Berdych will start as the favourite here owing to his recent form. At the same time, he can expect a tough fight from Simon and it can very well go to three sets.
At 1/2 with bet365 , Berdych is the favourite among the bookies.
