Mackenzie McDonald did not have a very good year so far but the American was able to score some decent wins recently with his tennis and form improving generally. The American played well in Florence last week beating Passaro among others in straight sets.
The year overall has been quite poor as he only has a 24-28 record so far and even on hard courts, which are his best surface, his luck hasn’t been that good with a 13-15 record. It’s by far the worst year in the last couple of years but he’s looked more like himself recently.
He’ll enjoy playing in Napoli as his serve should be good enough and the slower courts won’t expose his lack of power. Facing an Italian on home soil will be tricky but he navigated that challenge succesfully. Whether can do it as well remains to be seen.

Passaro Looking for Revenge
Francesco Passaro will be very glad to take on McDonald once more as the American beat him last week in Florence. It was a very close matchup that the Italian certainly could have won and now he’ll know how to attack McDonald a bit better.
The court plays similarly to that in Florence so I expect another close although it being outdoors could favour Passaro more. The young Italian has had a major breakout year so far with a 52-25 record. The vast majority of those wins came on clay which is his strongest surface but he’s been solid indoors and on hard courts.
The record on hard courts is 12-5 and that’s pretty good. Like many young players, he plays very aggressively and he’ll certainly be more aggressive than McDonald. The American has more variety and that’s how he beat him last time but Francesco will be ready this time around.
McDonald v Passaro Prediction and Tip
This is a very interesting matchup that ended up being a very close match last week. I do think we’ll see that again although I’m not sure I can back Passaro to win. The over is likelier.
