Victoria Azarenka, currently ranked World No. 37, is set to compete in only her second quarterfinal of the 2022 season. In what has been a largely underwhelming year for the 33-year-old Belarusian, Vika hopes to cap it off on a positive note.
Her journey to the elite eight saw her move past Elina Avanesyan in the opener, followed by the big guns like Paula Badosa and Madison Keys.
Against Badosa, Azarenka benefited from her opponent’s retirement in the second set, while with Keys, she took the match 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-1.
With these wins, Victoria’s year-to-date record has improved to 23-12. Her highlights include quarterfinal showings in the Citi Open and Adelaide International and fourth-round results in the US Open and Australian Open.
That said, the tennis veteran has been beaten by youngsters time and again this season – by the likes of Amanda Anisimova, Iga Swiatek, Linda Fruhvirtova, Veronika Kudermetova, and Xiyu Wang. Gauff has got all the precedents she needs to beat her experienced opponent.

Gauff Qualifiers for the WTA Finals
17-year-old American Coco Gauff secured her place in the year-end WTA Finals following what has been an astonishing season for her.
The youngster is set to compete in the singles and doubles department in Texas, making her the youngster player to do so since Anna Kournikova in 1999.
Currently ranked World No. 7, Gauff’s tally stands at 38-18 following her straight-set wins over Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martina Trevisan in Guadalajara.
She will be playing in her fifth quarterfinal in her last six tournaments on the WTA Tour, having reached this stage in San Diego, US Open, Rogers Cup, and WTA San Jose. Coco was also the runner-up at the French Open. On the doubles circuit, she has three titles and two runner-ups, including the Canadian Open, Qatar Open, and French Open.
With plenty of top 20 wins under her belt, the youngster has proven herself to be a formidable adversary.
Gauff v Azarenka Prediction and Tip
This one is Gauff’s to lose; she has the momentum and form needed to dispatch Azarenka. However, Vika is experienced and if she is having a good day, she may very well subdue the youngster and reach the semis.
