De Minaur Downs Shapovalov
Alex de Minaur knocked out the fourth seed Denis Shapovalov in the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open on Friday to reach the final four without dropping a set.
The fifth seed worked hard in the opening exchanges and won the first four games of the match before going on to take the opening set with ease.
The Canadian, who is ranked three places above the world no. 23, started the second set well, going up 0-2. But the Aussie got the break back immediately and there were no more breaks in the set, which eventually went into the tiebreak. De Mianur dominated the tiebreak and completed a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
The Aussie, who won 80% points on the back of his first serve, saved 3 of 4 break points and converted 3 of the 5 that he held.
De Mianur was even more dominant in the opening two rounds. He defeated Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and then ousted JJ Wolf 6-4, 6-2 in round two.
A six-time champion on the tour, De Minaur is aiming to reach an 11th final. He did reach one this year, capturing his second title in Atlanta by beating Jenson Brookby in the final. Can he reach a second by wining the semifinal on Saturday?

Rune Rallies to Beat Norrie
Holger Rune ended Cameron Norrie’s perfect record against him as the 19-year-old Dane succeeded in beating the Briton in the fourth attempt.
Interestingly all the four matches between the two have been played this year and it was the third time that they needed a deciding set to separate the two. But after going down in the first three contests, Rune turned the tables on Norrie in Stockholm.
The world no. 27 came back from a set down to defeat the second seed and reach a fourth semifinal of the season. Rune won his maiden ATP title in Munich in April and finished runner-up in his previous tournament in Sofia.
He also reached the final four in Lyon in what’s been a super season for him.
Edged out by Norrie in the first set tiebreak, Rune rebounded with two breaks of serve in the second round and then closed out the match with a solitary break in the third. The 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-3 win was his toughest so far in the tournament. He had needed just two sets to dispatch Thiago Monteiro in the first round and Cristain Garin in the second. Rune is 8-2 from his last 10 matches and will be looking to add more wins to that record in Stockholm.
De Minaur v Rune Prediction and Tip
Rune’s recent form has been great and in a matter of few days he has beaten a top 10 player in Jannik Sinner and a top 15 player in Cameron Norrie, both in indoor tournaments. He has found his feet on the surface but runs into another player in good rhythm. De Mianur is 6-1 on indoor surfaces and with three convincing wins, he would be going into the semifinals with a lot of confidence. Expect a cracking three-setter with the Aussie advancing.
