Alex Molcan v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 24 year old Slovak, and his French opponent, who is 12 years older.

Molcan Makes His Masters’ Debut

Molcan is making his debut at this event. In fact, this will be the first time he has appeared in the main draw of any Masters tournament, having been knocked out in the first round of qualifying in Madrid and Rome earlier this year.

The Slovak number one is primarily a clay court player and reached the finals in Rabat and Lyon earlier this year, losing to David Goffin and Cameron Norrie respectively.

He has not played a great deal of tennis in the past few months.

Since losing in the first round of the US Open, he lost his opening match in Stockholm.

Last week he did reach the second round in Basel, but was beaten in the second round by another Frenchman, Arthur Rinderknech, in straight sets.

Antwerp Semi-Finalist Gasquet

Whilst French contemporaries like Jo Wilfried Tsonga and Hugo Simon have announced their retirements form the sport this year, Gasquet intends to keep going for the time being, although he is now approaching the veteran stage of his career.

And he has a good record in the past at this tournament, reaching the semi-finals back in 2007, and twice making the last eight, although the last of those appearances was seven year ago.

He has not been beyond the third round since.

However, his run two weeks ago to the semi-finals in Antwerp shows that he still has the ability to rise to the big occasion, and included wins over Stan Wawrinka and David Goffin, before losing to the eventual winner, Felix Augur-Aliassime.

Molcan v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

Despite the disparity in their world rankings, Gasquet can consider himself the favourite. He has the benefit of home conditions and local support, has done well in Paris before, and seems to be in form, whereas Molcan is struggling.

Tip: Gasquet to win: 5/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
